  5. Welcome to Monty Python's Flying Circus Desktop Pythonizer.

  8. INSTALLING THE PYTHONIZER
  9.  
  10. To install the Pythonizer, select the File menu and choose Run 
  11. from the Program Manager. Type D:\SETUP (if necessary, replace D: 
  12. with the letter that represents your CD-ROM drive) in the Command 
  13. Line and press ENTER. Follow the instructions given in the 
  14. installation program.
  15.  
  16. To start the Pythonizer, double click the Pythonizer icon, which 
  17. was created for you by the installation program.
  18.

  20. PROGRAM NOTES
  21.  
  22. Using the Desktop Pythonizer, you can change Program Manager 
  23. icons. However, you may not be able to change icons from within 
  24. other Windows shell programs.
  25.  
  26. When Living Wallpaper, Application Commentary or Keyboard Sounds
  27. are turned on, the Pythonizer must be open (it can be minimized
  28. or hidden) for these items to be activated.
  29.  
  30. If you have Living Wallpaper, Application Commentary or Keyboard
  31. Sounds turned on, the Pythonizer's program name is added to the load=
  32. statement in the WIN.INI so that the Pythonizer will automatically 
  33. start the next time you start Windows. 
  34.  
  35. Start the Pythonizer automatically when Windows starts by minimizing the 
  36. program, clicking the icon once, and then selecting Start When Windows 
  37. Starts. You can deselect this option by selecting it again. If you have 
  38. selected a Living Wallpaper or have assigned Application Commentary or 
  39. Keyboard Sounds, the program will automatically toggle this option On 
  40. so that your wallpaper and sounds will be activated.

  43. COMMON PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS
  44.  
  45. Problem:
  46.   The program does not display properly.
  47.  
  48. Solution:
  49.    Make sure you have an SVGA display running with 256 colors. Also, 
  50.    make sure that you have the proper display driver installed. 
  51.  
  52. Problem:
  53.    The program is working, but you don't hear any sound.
  54.  
  55. Solution:
  56.    Make sure your sound card is installed and working properly.
  57.    You can check the sound from your sound board by using the
  58.    Sound utility in the Control Panel. Choose one of the WAV files
  59.    in the Windows directory and click Test.
  60.  
  61. Problem:
  62.    The sound or video skips during the program.
  63.  
  64. Solution:
  65.    Make sure you have at least 4 MB of RAM. Also, make sure
  66.    that an expanded memory manager (such as EMM386, QEMM or
  67.    386MAX) is not reserving memory that Windows and the Monty
  68.    Python program will need to run correctly.
  69.  
  70. Problem:
  71.    The sound and video are not synchronized properly.
  72.  
  73. Solution:
  74.    Make sure that you are running the Pythonizer on a 386 25 MHz 
  75.    or better IBM-compatible computer with at least 4 MB of RAM.
  76.  
  77. Problem:
  78.   The sound breaks up or has a lot of static.
  79.  
  80. Solution:
  81.    You may need to change the DMA setting on your sound card.
  82.    Please check the documentation for your sound card for the
  83.    proper settings and how to change the settings.
  84.  
  85. Problem:
  86.    The program seems to run extremely slowly.
  87.  
  88. Solution:
  89.    Make sure that you have a permanent swap file set up in Windows.
  90.    Please consult your Windows documentation for instructions
  91.    regarding your swap file settings.
  92.  
  93. Problem:
  94.    OLE animations are not playing correctly in some applications.
  95.  
  96. Solution:
  97.    OLE animations from the Pythonizer may not play correctly in 
  98.    some applications. This is due to variations in how OLE has been 
  99.    implemented in these applications. Please consult the 
  100.    documentation of the application in which you are placing the 
  101.    OLE animation for specific instructions or information.
  102.  
  103. Problem:
  104.    Enabling system sounds, with Keyboard Sounds set in the Pythonizer,
  105.    causes two sounds to play at once.
  106.  
  107. Solution:
  108.    Disable the system sounds from the Windows control panel or from the 
  109.    Noisy Bits dialog box in the Pythonizer when you have Keyboard Sounds
  110.    set in the Pythonizer.
  111.  
  112. Problem:
  113.    The Keyboard Sounds take up a lot of memory.
  114.  
  115. Solution:
  116.    The Keyboard Sounds are for entertainment purposes. It is not
  117.    recommended that you enable Keyboard Sounds while trying to get real 
  118.    work done.
  119.  
  120. Problem:
  121.    Trying to play the WAV files from the Pythonizer produces no sound on 
  122.    an 8-bit sound board.
  123.  
  124. Solution:
  125.    To ensure the highest possible quality of audio the Pythonizer WAV files 
  126.    are saved as 16-bit files. To play the files on an 8-bit sound board, you 
  127.    will need to install the "Microsoft Sound Mapper V2.01," the "Microsoft 
  128.    ADPCM Codec V2.01" and "Microsoft IMA ADPCM Codec V2.01" drivers. These 
  129.    drivers can be obtained from the Microsoft SDK forum on CompuServe 
  130.    (GO WINSDK and download the acm201.zip file) or from 7th Level. For 
  131.    instructions on installing these drivers, please consult your Microsoft 
  132.    Windows documentation.
